Auckland Cavy Care was founded on October 28th, 2012, with a heartfelt mission: to provide a safe haven for Guinea Pigs in need. Operating from our home, we are a dedicated animal rescue focused solely on Guinea Pigs.

We rely on the generosity of foster homes and, most importantly, donations to keep going—we simply couldn’t do it without the support of our community. Every contribution helps us provide food, shelter, and veterinary care for the Guinea Pigs who need us most.

We use the term ‘adopt’ rather than ‘buy’ because we do not breed Guinea Pigs, nor do we sell them for profit. Our adoption fees are set only to help cover a portion of the veterinary costs we incur while caring for these animals.

Every Guinea Pig that comes into our rescue is, in essence, homeless. Many are found abandoned on the streets after being dumped or escaping from their cages, while others are surrendered by families who, for various reasons, can no longer provide the care their pets deserve. We understand that rehoming a pet is a difficult decision, and we are here to help ensure each Guinea Pig finds a loving new family.

All Guinea Pigs in our care are de-sexed before adoption. This is an important part of our commitment to responsible pet ownership and helps prevent unwanted litters in the future.

Our Guinea Pigs are cared for either at our home base or in one of our wonderful foster homes. We encourage potential adopters to consider fostering first, as it’s a great way to discover if Guinea Pig ownership is right for you. After a period of quarantine, health checks, and de-sexing, our Guinea Pigs are made available for adoption, ready to become cherished members of their new families.
