Auckland Cavy Care aims to help care for and re-home as many guinea pigs as we can to good homes, to do this we need the help of foster homes - People like you!

Our Foster Care Program has been put into place to allow us to help and care for as many of these homeless animals as possible, as well as allowing these animals more one on one time with humans before being placed into a loving forever home!

Whats Involved?

When fostering for Auckland Cavy Care you will be required to:

Provide a safe, secure, environment (mainly indoors for guinea pigs, rabbits can be indoors or outside).
Make sure the animals have adequate food and water at all times - we supply hay & pellets but you need to supply fresh greens.
Keep the animals enclosure clean.
Be able to transport the animal to and from the shelter when needed.
Be able to provide the rescue with weekly updates on the animal.
Be able to provide lots of tender love and care, attention and handling.
Be able to notice any medical health issues that will need treatment.

For Guinea pig foster homes we can supply indoor housing, food, bedding, water bowls and anything else that may be needed.

For rabbit foster homes we can supply food, bedding, water bowls, litter trays and on occasion housing & enrichment toys.

Are you able to provide the guinea pigs fruit and veg while in your care? If yes please state the variety you will be able to provide and how much you will give each guinea pig daily.

Are you will to supply bedding for the guinea pig/s when in your care? If so, Please state the type below. If not the shelter will be able to provide you with bedding free of charge while they are in your care.

Are you able to provide your own housing for the guinea pig/s while they are in your care? If not the shelter is able to provided one for you while the foster animals are in your care.

If you Answered yes to the question above please state what the cage/hutch is made out of eg timber, plastic etc and the size of the cage/hutch length x width.

Where will the guinea pig/s will be housed?

Do you belive you are emotionally capable to let go of any guinea pig/s that you have fostered once they are ready to be retuned to the shelter?
